I had a stock BD-2 and then had Keeley do the mod to it. Your experience is kind of why I have held off from having my BD-2(of 10 years) modded, by anyone. I know it seems some folks swear by Keeley mods, or other mods of the Blues Driver, but I have always been worried about messing up what I have already.

The Boss Blues Driver is one of those pedals that everybody has owned or at least played through once. I’d venture to say it’s nearly as popular as the beloved Tube Screamer. While many players like the sound of the stock pedal just fine, many other guitarists like the basic tone but just want it better—more organic, responsive and dynamic. Decay was good, but it still had a piercing treble that i could not dial out. I don't know if this would makes a difference, but there's one cap change in the whole MA mod that he says to do last. That is, do everything else, then try the pedal out before changing that last cap. That cap is supposed to take the BD-2 into Tube Screamer territory. I don't think I wanted that, so never did that last step.

I'm glad I did. It says 'blues' on it, and it sounds like the blues to me. Who'd 'a thunk? I really like the singing sustain that it offers. And, as a sidenote, sometimes when I couple the Tubescreamer with the compressor it gets really. I can't think of how to describe it. Like really midrange-y, I guess, almost making it sound 'cheap'. And a Z amp should never sound cheap.

It can be used with a clean amp to give it some nice grit, and it can also be used a fairly transparent sounding boost to help give you a little more tightness and compression to your overall tone. However, it has a few drawbacks. For one, it's a bit bright in its stock form. The tone knob really needs to be fixed, and it could be thickened up. Keeley's mod does that and then some.
